How to Measure

New Construction

Jamb Size Recommendation:        2” X 4” Framing - 6” Jamb

                                                       2” X 6” Framing - 8” Jamb

The recommendation eliminates the need for brick mold or exterior casing, allowing stone, brick or stucco band to be installed directly against the extended jamb.

NOTE: No brick mold or exterior casing is provided with the door.

CADs are provided for every project with unit or outside of frame measurements defined. The CAD will be approved by you for approval prior to the start of production.

Width:  The framed width or rough opening should be one inch (1") wider than the width of the door unit or outside of frame width ordered.  For example, a single door unit that has an outside of frame opening of thirty-nine inches (39") requires a framed opening of forty inches (40").

Height: The framed height or rough opening should be one and one quarter inch (1 1/4")  higher from the subfloor than the height of the door unit or outside of frame height ordered. This allows for a 3/4" board to be installed under the jamb and threshold and 1/2" clearance for installing the door unit. For a 8 foot door unit (outside of frame) the rough opening needs to be 96 ½ inches, from the ¾” board (or 97 1/4" from the subfloor).

Eye brow top - Provide the rise. (The rise is the difference between the over all height of the door jamb and the height of the outside jamb legs.)

Radius top (half circle) - No additional measurements are required.

Elliptical top - Provide a template from outside of jamb.

Replacement Doors

Measure the door width and height by using the measurements of the outside existing jamb measurements.

Width of replacement door required can be calculated by measuring the distance between the door jamb then add 1 1/2".width height and jamb depth (e.g. 37 1/2” X 98 1/8” with a  4 9/16”jamb depth).

Height of replacement door required can be calculated by measuring the distance between the interior floor to the bottom of the door jamb then add 5/8". Use the interior floor mesurement for the height especially if the existing door is sitting below the interior flooring.

If the wall depth is 4 9/16" order a door jamb of 4 9/16". We normally recommend replacing the brickmolding with PVC brickmold.

NOTE: Before purchase we suggest that your builder/installer also measure the opening.

Eye brow top -  Provide the rise. (The rise is the difference between the over all height of the door jamb and the height of the outside jamb legs.  Measure the height for the door at the jamb legs and in the center of the door.)

Radius top (half circle) - No additional measurements are required.

Elliptical top - Provide a template from outside of jamb.
